After hours at Whitfield Law, a demo firm: the office is closed and the sign on the door says it reopens at 8:30 AM. A call to the firm’s number is answered by LEX Phone as Whitfield Law’s intelligent phone service, and at 9:47 PM the caller, Priya Sharma, is filed to Smokeball as a new lead, booked in for 2 PM tomorrow.

Yes, and it never pretends otherwise: LEX Phone introduces itself as your firm's customer service system, never claims to be a person, and says it is automated if asked. It works from your services, hours and rules, and anyone who needs you is put through or booked in. It replaces your voicemail, not you.
There isn't one: calls are transcribed, not kept as audio. Summaries and messages are stored in Australian data centres under the Privacy Act and the APPs. The transcript is filed to Smokeball or SharePoint (Clio once it launches), then deleted from our storage, or after three months if there is nowhere to file it. Callers are told at the start and can ask for transcription to be turned off.
On calls you answer, Deepgram transcribes with model improvement switched off for our account, and OpenAI writes the summary under API terms that do not allow training on what we send. The answering service's voice provider deletes its copy within a day. We improve the service from aggregated, de-identified figures only.
Only named people, behind multi-factor authentication, and their access is logged. Your SharePoint, Smokeball or Clio tokens are stored encrypted and readable only by our server-side functions.
You own your calls, messages and records, and anything filed to SharePoint, Smokeball or Clio stays in your system. Ask for an export any time; account data is deleted within 30 days of deleting your account.
No. Port your number at no charge, or take a new Australian number in the app.
Never. It takes the caller's details and what they need, files them, and you decide what happens next. It notes the other party's name so the firm can check conflicts.
It doesn't file into LEAP, but every summary stays in the app, searchable with your texts, and you get a notification after each call.
A business phone and AI answering service for Australian law firms: each lawyer gets a number, LEX Phone answers as the firm's intelligent phone service when they cannot, and every call and text is written up and filed to the matter in Smokeball or SharePoint, with Clio in development. The longer answer covers what it does and does not do.
Each call becomes a completed task on the matter, with the file note and a memo or Word document. Call-backs and bookings land in tasks and the calendar, new enquiries can open as leads, and optional time capture covers only calls a lawyer took. It is live and listed on the Smokeball marketplace.
